Shelter of Peace in the Jewish Women's Archive

The Jewish Women's Archive posted an article on Koleinu's Shelter of Peace initiative and our November 8th clergy breakfast and briefing.

In the article, author Chanel Dubofsky shares statistics about LGBTQ homeless youth and discusses why youth homelessness is such a pressing problem. The article, "Interfaith leaders rally to raise awareness of homelessness among LGBTQ youth," also talked about the Tuesday breakfast and briefing at CBST. Two homeless youth attended the briefing and spoke to the clergy about their experiences. Speakers also included Rabbi Kleinbaum; Carl Siciliano, Executive Director of the Ali Forney Center; and Lewis A. Fidler, New York City Council Member.

Over 30 clergy members attended the event, and many of them will be educating their congregations about LGBTQ youth homelessness as a part of the Shelter of Peace Weekend of Prayer and Education on the weekend of January 20th. The event was a huge success, and we're so excited that so many congregations are interested in being a part of a coalition to take action against LGBTQ youth homelessness.
