Many congregations across NYC have participated in actions to build awareness and fight LGBT youth homelessness.
During the Friday night service, our rabbi announces that evening's weather report, reminding our congregants of the conditions these youth face outdoors. The Ali Forney Center has also created a series of portraits of homeless LGBTQ youth called "Homeless for the Holidays." Please read their stories here and share them with your congregations.
The Riverside Church is holding a forum on homeless LGBTQ youth on Sunday, January 8th, 2012, from 1-3pm. The Riverside Church is located at 490 Riverside Drive in Manhattan.
The Ali Forny Theatrical Society in collaboration with Theatre of the Oppressed NYC put on an original production of PGP- Performing Gender Pronouns, hosted by Judson Memorial Church. This play engaged the audience in dialogue with the issue of LBGTQ youth homelessness, homophobia and racism. The Brooklyn Review caught interviews with the actors as well as Shelter of Peace participants. Watch here .
