Elyssa Cohen grew up on Long Island, NY. She graduated from Brandeis University with a double major in Women and Gender Studies, and Sociology, and minors in Judaic Studies, and Creative Writing. Elyssa has been involved in social justice work since high school, when she founded a chapter of the ADL's education program A World Of Difference at her public school.
Elyssa has always valued a strong sense of community, and has been involved in a variety of different organizations whose missions reflect this goal. Elyssa was a Jewish Organizing Initiative fellow in Boston and worked as the Community Organizer of Keshet, an organization working for the full inclusion of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals within the Jewish Community.
Elyssa has also spent many years educating Jewish youth, at Temple Beth David, in Commack, NY; and Brandeis Jewish Experience Program, in Waltham, MA. Last year she worked with teens as the Youth Educator at Temple Sinai in Brookline, MA and as the Youth Department Administrator of Temple Emanuel in Newton, MA. Elyssa is happy to have moved back to NY and to have joined the CBST staff! She is excited to be working with such a vibrant community. You can also find her teaching hebrew to our Adult B'nai Mitzvah class.
