Ilene Sameth
Executive Director
Ilene Sameth joined the staff at CBST as its second Executive Director in July of 2003.
Ilene brings to her position a career in synagogue management specializing in community development. She has multifaceted experience in programming, financial management, communications, IT development, events planning, membership and fundraising.
Prior to joining CBST, Ilene was the Executive Director of West End Synagogue, the only fully Reconstructionist congregation in New York City. For the previous 5 years, Ilene was the Membership Director at Congregation B'nai Jeshurun. During her tenure there she helped to develop ground-breaking programs for various stages in congregational life. Those programs for potential members, new members and long standing members have been successful in developing a more committed membership that takes an active role in the everyday life of the synagogue. The programs have been presented to "Synagogue 2000," an institute that helps synagogues develop their communities.
Ilene was an opera singer before moving into synagogue management. Her career took her to many stages around the country as well as to Italy and Israel. She made both her Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center debuts before the age of 25.
